Action follows adverse intelligence inputs, unauthorized absence
KATHUA, JUNE 19: In a firm demonstration of her zero-tolerance policy towards corruption and misconduct within the police force, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kathua Mohita Sharma has disengaged a Special Police Officer (SPO) from service after he was allegedly found involved in corrupt and immoral practices and remained absent from duty without authorization.
The action was taken through an official order issued by the District Police Headquarters Kathua following adverse inputs received from the District Special Branch.
The disengaged SPO has been identified as Rishi Sharma (No. 198/SPO), son of Joginder Paul and a resident of Keerian, Kathua.
According to the order, intelligence inputs indicated that the SPO was allegedly involved in immoral and corrupt activities through which he had amassed significant movable and immovable assets.
The report further noted that his performance had not been satisfactory and that he had been running absent from duty, raising serious concerns regarding his conduct and professional integrity.
Taking immediate cognizance of the matter, SSP Mohita Sharma ordered his disengagement from the services of District Police Kathua with retrospective effect from June 12, 2026, the date on which he was marked unauthorizedly absent from Outpost Sarla.
The SPO post held by him has been declared vacant, and he has been directed to immediately deposit all police uniforms, arms and ammunition issued to him.
The action is being viewed as part of a broader internal accountability drive being spearheaded by SSP Mohita Sharma, who has consistently maintained that corruption, indiscipline and conduct unbecoming of a police officer will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
Police sources said the district police leadership has been closely monitoring complaints and intelligence inputs relating to misconduct within the ranks and has acted decisively whenever violations have come to light.
Officials noted that Kathua Police has previously initiated disciplinary proceedings against SPOs and other personnel in cases involving criminal conduct, drug-related activities, dereliction of duty and prolonged unauthorized absence.
The latest action further underlines the district police’s resolve to maintain discipline and uphold the credibility of the force.
Senior officers said the move sends a clear signal that the police department is committed to maintaining the highest standards of integrity and professionalism.
They emphasized that personnel entrusted with enforcing the law must themselves remain beyond reproach and that any deviation from service norms will invite strict action.
The disengagement order has drawn attention within police circles as another example of Kathua Police’s efforts to strengthen internal vigilance and ensure accountability.
Under the leadership of SSP Mohita Sharma, the district has witnessed sustained action against crime, narcotics and indiscipline, with equal emphasis on maintaining transparency and ethical conduct within the force itself.
Police officials reiterated that the clean-up drive within the department will continue and that no individual, irrespective of position or status, will be spared if found involved in activities that compromise the image and integrity of the police organization.
