Jammu, June 19, 2026: In a major breakthrough against organised crime and narcotics trafficking, Police Station Gandhi Nagar, under the leadership of SHO Jaipal Sharma, has busted a significant drug and illegal weapons network, arrested three persons and recovered a commercial quantity of heroin like substance along with a cache of arms and ammunition. The operation forms part of Jammu Police’s intensified campaign against drug mafias and criminal syndicates operating in the region.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of SSP Jammu Shri Joginder Singh JKPS and DIG Jammu Range Shri Shridhar Patil IPS, who have been spearheading an aggressive drive against narcotics trafficking, illegal weapons and organised criminal activities across Jammu District.
During the operation, police recovered 260 grams of heroin like narcotic substance, two pistols, two desi kattas, one revolver and one sharp edged weapon (kirch). The recoveries are being viewed as a major success in disrupting a criminal network allegedly involved in both narcotics trafficking and illegal arms activities.
The three accused arrested in connection with the case have been identified as Aftab Bhat S/O Altaf Bhat R/O House No. 114, Gujjar Nagar, Jammu; Chanchal Singh S/O Thakur Anar Singh R/O House No. 149, Shastri Nagar, Jammu; and Anoop Singh Jasrotia S/O Dharampaul R/O Ward No. 2, Krishna Colony, Kathua.
Police sources indicated that the investigation has uncovered links to a broader criminal syndicate allegedly being controlled by a jailed kingpin identified as Makhan, who is suspected of continuing to operate and coordinate illegal activities from inside prison. Investigators are now examining the network’s operational structure, financial channels and links to narcotics suppliers and illegal arms dealers.
An FIR under relevant provisions of law has been registered at Police Station Gandhi Nagar, and further investigation is underway to identify additional members of the network and establish its forward and backward linkages.
The latest success has further enhanced the reputation of SHO Jaipal Sharma, who has earned recognition for his tough stance against criminals, drug traffickers and organised gangs. Having previously served in Miran Sahib and R S Pura, the officer has built a record of sustained action against anti social elements and narcotics networks. During his tenure of around eight to nine months at Gandhi Nagar Police Station, police have reportedly recovered 15 to 20 illegal weapons, reflecting a focused effort to curb the growing menace of illegal arms and organised crime.
Police officials believe that dismantling such networks requires sustained operations targeting not only street level offenders but also the masterminds and financiers working behind the scenes. The latest arrests and recoveries are expected to provide crucial leads for expanding the investigation into wider criminal activities linked to narcotics trafficking and illegal weapons circulation.
Reiterating its commitment to public safety, Jammu Police stated that the campaign against drugs and organised crime will continue with full intensity. Citizens have also been urged to share information about drug peddlers, arms suppliers and criminal elements so that coordinated efforts can further strengthen the fight against organised crime in the region.
