Poonch, June 4: In a strong message against the growing menace of narcotics, DIG Rajouri-Poonch Range Sandeep Wazir has called for an uncompromising and sustained offensive against drug trafficking networks, emphasizing that every available resource must be utilized to dismantle the ecosystem of drug abuse and safeguard the future of Jammu and Kashmir’s youth.
Stressing that the fight against drugs is not merely a law enforcement challenge but a social responsibility, the DIG directed police officers to intensify action against drug peddlers, suppliers, and those facilitating the illegal narcotics trade. He underscored the need for enhanced intelligence-based operations, continuous monitoring of vulnerable areas, and swift action against individuals involved in drug-related activities.
The DIG stated that drug abuse poses a serious threat to society by destroying lives, destabilizing families, and pushing young people towards crime, addiction, and social isolation. He emphasized that police units must maintain constant vigilance and ensure that anti-narcotics operations are carried out with determination, professionalism, and accountability.
Calling for a multi-dimensional strategy, Wazir stressed that enforcement alone cannot eradicate the menace and must be complemented by extensive awareness and preventive initiatives. He directed officers to strengthen outreach programmes in educational institutions, villages, and urban localities to educate students, parents, and community members about the devastating consequences of substance abuse.
He further emphasized the importance of involving civil society, educational institutions, religious leaders, and local representatives in the campaign, noting that community participation remains one of the most effective tools in identifying and preventing the spread of drugs at the grassroots level.
The DIG also called for the identification of emerging drug hotspots and vulnerable pockets, directing officers to adopt proactive measures to prevent such areas from becoming centres of narcotics activity. He stressed the importance of gathering actionable intelligence, tracking habitual offenders, and maintaining sustained pressure on drug networks to disrupt their operations permanently.
Reaffirming the unwavering commitment of Jammu and Kashmir Police to the vision of a drug-free society, Wazir urged all officers to pursue the anti-drug mission with renewed energy and a sense of purpose. He emphasized that every successful action against narcotics not only weakens criminal networks but also protects families and secures the future of countless young people.
With the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir campaign gaining momentum across the region, the DIG’s directions reflect a clear resolve to intensify the fight against drug abuse and ensure that those involved in the narcotics trade face the full force of the law, while awareness and preventive efforts continue to strengthen society’s collective resistance against the drug menace.
