Twin operations under Nasha Mukta Abhiyaan expose deep-rooted narco-criminal nexus; Anna Sinha vows total dismantling of network

JAMMU, APRIL 23: In a decisive and high-intensity crackdown against drug trafficking and organized crime, Jammu Police under the supervision of SP Headquarters Jammu Anna Sinha carried out back-to-back operations in Bishnah, leading to the arrest of three hardcore criminals and the recovery of a substantial quantity of narcotics, illegal arms, ammunition, cash, and vehicles.
Addressing a media briefing, Anna Sinha underlined that Jammu Police is enforcing a zero tolerance policy against the drug menace and is committed to uprooting the entire narco network operating in the region.
Detailing the first operation, she said that acting on credible intelligence inputs, police teams launched a targeted raid and apprehended Amit Kumar, son of Swaran Lal, a notorious offender from Sehora with a criminal history of at least six FIRs, including serious charges like attempt to murder and abduction.
During the search operation, police recovered 254 grams of heroin (commonly known as chitta), 13 live cartridges, and a sophisticated USA-made Beretta pistol from his possession. A Baleno car bearing registration number JK21G-3867, believed to have been used in illegal activities, was also seized. The scale of recovery points towards
his active involvement in organized narco-criminal operations.
In a separate but equally significant operation, police teams arrested two more accused-Lovely Singh and Swaran Singh, both residents of R.S. Pura. The duo was intercepted and during the search, police recovered 16 grams of heroin, ?25,000 in cash, and six mobile phones, along with a Thar vehicle (JK02DJ-9906).
Officials believe the mobile devices could provide crucial leads into the broader drug distribution network and financial transactions linked to the racket. Both accused are reportedly involved in serious offences, including abduction and attempt to murder, and are now being questioned to uncover their connections within the larger criminal ecosystem.
SP Headquarters Anna Sinha emphasized during the briefing that the recent operations are part of a larger, sustained operation under the “Nasha Mukta Abhiyaan,” aimed not only at arresting offenders but at systematically dismantling the entire supply chain of narcotics-from peddlers to kingpins.
She asserted that Jammu Police is strengthening its intelligence grid, increasing ground surveillance, and adopting a coordinated approach to ensure that no element involved in drug trafficking escapes the law.
She further highlighted that strict legal action has been initiated in both cases under relevant provisions, and investigations are in full swing to trace backward and forward linkages of the accused, including suppliers, financiers, and associates. “No one involved in this illegal trade will be spared,” she stated firmly, adding that more arrests and recoveries are likely as the investigations progresses.
Appealing to the public, Anna Sinha called for greater community participation in the fight against drugs. She urged citizens to share any information related to narcotics or criminal activities with the police and assured complete confidentiality. People were advised to dial 112 in case of emergencies and to make use of the Nasha Mukta Helpline (0191-2571616) for assistance and reporting.
Highlighting the importance of rehabilitation alongside enforcement, she also encouraged families to seek timely help for individuals struggling with addiction by approaching nearby de-addiction centres. She stressed that eliminating drug abuse requires a collective societal effort, combining strict policing with awareness and treatment.
With these strong and coordinated actions, Jammu Police has once again sent a clear and powerful message that the crackdown on narco crime is intensifying, and the entire network behind the menace is under strict watch.
