Kulgam, April 06, 2026: In a sustained and high-impact offensive against narcotics trafficking, Kulgam Police, under the decisive overall supervision of SSP Kulgam Anayat Ali Choudhary (IPS), has achieved remarkable success over the past three weeks. A comprehensive crackdown has resulted in the registration of 10 cases under the stringent NDPS Act, leading to the apprehension of 14 drug peddlers and the seizure of a significant quantity of contraband substances, dealing a severe blow to the illicit drug trade.
The intensified operations, guided by the strategic expertise of Addl. SP Highway Qazigund Mumtaz Ali Bhatti (JKPS), SDPO Qazigund Mansoor Ayaz, and the proactive enforcement by SHO PS Qazigund Manav Dhanetiya (IPS Probationer), have been widespread. Nine FIRs were registered at Police Station Qazigund, and one at Police Station Devsar, reflecting the pervasive nature of the drug problem. During these concerted efforts, police successfully recovered 415.61 grams of heroin, 1,348 grams of charas (including charas powder), 1.5 kilograms of bhang patri, and a substantial ₹1,37,990 in cash.
Investigations have meticulously revealed multiple backward and forward linkages, exposing a wider and more organized narcotics network. These crucial linkages have already led to further arrests and recoveries in different locations, indicating a comprehensive approach to dismantling the entire supply chain rather than merely focusing on individual peddlers.
The major cases contributing to this impressive tally include; One significant operation, 278 grams of heroin along with cash was recovered. Further investigation, following the threads of this case, led to an additional recovery of 262 grams of heroin from Jammu, unequivocally exposing an inter-district drug syndicate. This breakthrough highlights the extensive reach of these criminal networks and the police’s ability to track them across administrative boundaries.
Another critical case resulted in the recovery of 125.61 grams of heroin and ₹85,000 cash from two accused, further disrupting the flow of illicit drugs. Police also successfully seized 1.5 kg of bhang patri and substantial quantities of charas in multiple operations conducted across Qazigund and adjoining areas, targeting diverse forms of contraband.
In Devsar, approximately 390 grams of cannabis-like substance was recovered from an accused who attempted to flee during a naka checking, demonstrating the vigilance of the on-ground police teams.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Kulgam, Anayat Ali Choudhary (IPS), reiterated the police’s unwavering “zero-tolerance policy” against drug trafficking. He emphatically stated that strict action will continue unabated against all those involved in the illegal trade, irrespective of their position or influence. SSP Choudhary also appealed to the public to actively cooperate with the police and share any information regarding drug-related activities, assuring that the identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential.
