Kulgam, March 09: The district administration in Kulgam on Monday retrieved 24 kanals of land belonging to a Kashmiri Pandit migrant family in the Gansarogam village after nearly three decades, as part of an ongoing drive to restore migrant properties.
The retrieval operation was carried out by a joint team of officials from the Revenue Department and Police under the supervision of Tehsildar Kulgam, Nisar Ahmad Wani. The team recovered the land from four different locations within the same village following verification of revenue records and complaints regarding unauthorized occupation.
Officials said the action was taken after a thorough examination of land records confirmed that the property belonged to a migrant Pandit family that had left the Valley in the early 1990s.
Speaking to the media, Tehsildar Nisar Ahmad Wani said the district administration has intensified efforts to safeguard and restore migrant properties across Kulgam district. He added that nearly 78 kanals of migrant land have been retrieved and restored to Kashmiri Pandit families in the district so far this year.
Wani also appealed to the public to voluntarily return migrant land to its rightful owners. He warned that strict legal action would be taken against those found illegally occupying such properties.
The district administration reiterated its commitment to protecting migrant properties and ensuring that land belonging to Kashmiri Pandit families is restored in accordance with the law.
