Jammu, January 03, 2026: In an unprecedented and relentless offensive against the pervasive drug menace, SSP Jammu Sh. Joginder Singh (JKPS) has spearheaded a landmark campaign, driving the District Police Jammu to achieve significant milestones throughout 2025. Reinforcing its unyielding “zero-tolerance policy” towards narcotics, the force has executed focused enforcement, intelligence-led operations, and robust community participation, delivering a crippling blow to drug trafficking networks and safeguarding the district’s future.
Under the decisive command of SSP Joginder Singh, District Police Jammu registered a staggering 204 FIRs under the stringent NDPS Act during 2025. These extensive operations resulted in the arrest of 311 accused individuals, including a significant 35 women drug peddlers, underscoring the pervasive nature of the problem and the police’s comprehensive approach. The crackdown also led to the seizure of 71 vehicles directly involved in narcotics trafficking. Of the total arrests, 207 accused were apprehended in heroin (“Chitta”) cases, while 51 arrests pertained to other non-Chitta related drug offenses.
The impact on the illegal drug supply chain has been monumental, with authorities recovering vast quantities of illicit substances. Key seizures included over 15 kilograms of heroin, a staggering haul estimated to be worth ₹60 crore in the international market. Other significant recoveries comprised 78 kg Ganja, 114 kg poppy straw, thousands of capsules, and substantial amounts of opium. Notably, Jammu Police successfully detected 11 commercial quantity NDPS cases, directly leading to the arrest of 38 accused, reflecting intensified action against organized drug trafficking networks. Furthermore, 11 hardcore drug peddlers were detained under the stringent PIT NDPS Act, demonstrating a firm stance against habitual offenders and major players.
Beyond these crucial interdictions, SSP Joginder Singh’s strategy focused on dismantling the financial backbone of drug syndicates. Jammu Police attached 03 immovable properties valued at ₹85,70,285 and 01 movable property (vehicle) worth ₹11,40,000, all unequivocally identified as proceeds of narcotics. In a bold move against entrenched illicit infrastructure, 23 drug-linked illegal structures, identified as drug hotspots within the district, were demolished during the year, including 03 identified drug hotspots, sending a clear message against illegal gains.
The police’s commitment to justice is evident in its robust prosecution efforts, securing 48 convictions during 2025. The supply-chain investigations proved particularly effective, leading to 12 FIRs and 36 arrests across Jammu, Punjab, Kathua, Udhampur, and Rajouri, showcasing a strong administrative and financial investigation approach. In a major step under Section 52-A NDPS Act, large-scale destruction of seized narcotics was carried out during 2025. Contraband seized in 82 cases was destroyed, including 5293 kg 204 gms of Poppy Straw, 49 kg 175 gms of Cannabis, 44 kg 387 gms of Charas, 4 kg 90 gms of Ganja, 1 kg 406 gms of Heroin, 1 kg of Brown Sugar, 38,480 capsules, 660 bottles of Corex, and 6020 tablets. The total value of this destroyed contraband runs into several crores.
Alongside rigorous enforcement, Jammu Police, under SSP Joginder Singh, placed strong emphasis on crucial awareness and rehabilitation initiatives. During 2025, 27 drug awareness programs, 325 PCPG meetings, 179 Thana Diwas, 469 IEC campaigns, and 09 awareness programs were conducted within the District by the Police Drug De-addiction & Rehabilitation Centre Channi, Jammu. This vital centre catered to 1,667 OPD patients and admitted 311 patients during the year, providing critical support to those battling addiction.
