Jammu, December 15, 2025: The Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) today launched a major and decisive enforcement drive, delivering a stern message to violators of building bylaws and municipal norms across the city. Under the direct leadership of Commissioner JMC and the meticulous supervision of Joint Commissioner (R&E) Subah Mehta, along with Deputy Commissioners (North/South), the JMC successfully demolished multiple illegal structures and sealed several commercial units, reaffirming its unwavering commitment to ensuring a planned urban landscape and curbing unauthorized construction and encroachment on public land.

The Enforcement Wing of the JMC executed the operations with precision, targeting various hotspots of illegal activity. In the Warehouse area, near the Fourth Bridge, Jammu, a cluster of illegal jhuggis (slum dwellings) was swiftly demolished, reclaiming public space. Simultaneously, at Malik Market, near Wave Mall, enforcement officials took stringent action against an unauthorized construction site. Illegal shuttering, being used for construction without the requisite building permission from the competent authority, was immediately demolished and removed from the site, halting the illicit development.

In a separate, but equally significant, action, the JMC sealed multiple commercial establishments found to be operating in clear violation of municipal regulations, likely for unauthorized construction or illegal change of land use. Specifically, two shops were sealed in the Roop Nagar area, while four shops were sealed in the Patta Bohri area, signalling a clear intent to crack down on commercial entities that flout established norms.

Joint Commissioner (R&E) Subah Mehta, whose vigilant oversight was instrumental in today’s successful drive, communicated directly with Jammu Jottings. She explicitly stated that JMC is now prepared to tackle an even more insidious form of violation. “We have received reports, and we will now take action against those illegal constructions that have been converted to commercial units after passing residential maps, especially in Roop Nagar,” Mehta confirmed, signalling a crucial expansion of JMC’s enforcement scope. This proactive stance aims to address a common and significant violation where residential properties are illegally converted for commercial purposes, circumventing zoning laws and tax obligations, particularly in densely populated residential areas.

The Jammu Municipal Corporation has reiterated its firm resolve to strictly enforce building bylaws and crack down decisively on all illegal activities. The Corporation emphasized its commitment to ensuring that all construction activities adhere to the approved master plan and legally obtained building permissions. JMC urged all citizens and developers to strictly comply with municipal laws, warning that any failure to do so will result in stringent action, which includes comprehensive demolition, immediate sealing, and prosecution under relevant statutes.

JMC officials affirmed that such rigorous drives will continue unabated in the future, with the explicit goal of curbing the menace of illegal construction and encroachment throughout the municipal limits of Jammu. The proactive involvement of Commissioner JMC and the direct supervision of Joint Commissioner (R&E) Subah Mehta herald a more aggressive phase of enforcement, aiming to bring order and planned development to the rapidly expanding urban landscape of Jammu.
