Jammu, Nov 23: The Police Station RS Pura has registered a formal case against two house owners for allegedly accommodating tenants in violation of mandatory tenant verification directives issued by the District Magistrate, Jammu. The order requires all landlords to conduct police verification of tenants prior to allowing them to reside in their premises, a measure introduced to strengthen public safety and maintain updated records of non-local or temporary residents.
According to police sources, a specific input was received on Sunday indicating that two residents of Dravtey, falling under R.S. Pura Tehsil, had allowed multiple tenants to occupy their juggies without submitting the required verification forms at the local police station. Acting upon the information, a preliminary enquiry was initiated.
The investigation revealed that Mehmood Ahmed, son of Mohd Latief, and Lekh Raj, son of Shanker Dass—both residents of Dravtey, R.S. Pura—had rented out their structures to several tenants without complying with the legal mandate of verification. Officials stated that such actions create potential gaps in security monitoring and are treated with utmost seriousness.
Following the findings, an FIR was promptly registered under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Police Station R.S. Pura. The case has now moved into the investigation phase, during which the antecedents and background of the tenants will also be verified.
The Jammu Police, while reiterating their commitment to public safety, has once again urged citizens to strictly follow tenant verification guidelines. Authorities cautioned that any lapse or deliberate non-compliance will invite stringent legal action under the relevant provisions of law.
District Police Jammu affirmed that such enforcement is essential to ensuring a secure and well-regulated environment for all residents of the region.
