Kathua, November 17, 2025: Kathua district is experiencing a new era of aggressive law enforcement, with SSP Kathua Mohita Sharma (IPS) making an immediate and indelible impact within her very first month of assuming command. In a clear demonstration of her resolute commitment to a “no compromise” policy on crime, bovine smuggling, and drug peddling, SSP Sharma has orchestrated a series of high-impact operations that have yielded remarkable results across various fronts. Her swift and decisive actions have not only disrupted criminal networks but have also instilled a renewed sense of security and accountability in the district.
The primary focus of SSP Mohita Sharma’s initial month has been an unrelenting war on drugs. Under her direct supervision, Kathua Police have successfully recovered a staggering 492.8 grams of heroin, a significant quantity reflecting the intensity of the anti-narcotics drive. These operations have led to the apprehension of 20 drug peddlers, with 14 First Information Reports (FIRs) registered against them. Further demonstrating a firm stance, one notorious individual has also been booked under the stringent PIT-NDPS (Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Public Safety Act (PSA), signalling a clear intent to target habitual offenders with robust legal measures.
In a landmark move designed to dismantle the financial backbone of the drug trade, SSP Sharma’s team successfully attached immovable property belonging to a notorious drug peddler. A one-storey building, owned by Javed Akhter S/o Mohd. Latief, R/o Lohai Malhar, A/P Dher Phinter, Tehsil Billawar, Distt. Kathua, with an estimated worth of ₹12,26,303/- (Twelve Lakh Twenty-Six Thousand Three Hundred Three Rupees), has been legally attached. This decisive action sends an unequivocal message that proceeds from illicit activities will be seized, striking directly at the ill-gotten gains of criminals.
The achievements of SSP Mohita Sharma (IPS) extend far beyond narcotics. Her proactive approach has also yielded significant successes in other critical areas of law enforcement. In a strong stance against the illegal trade of livestock, 18 bovines have been rescued, leading to the arrest of two smugglers. Her team has successfully solved a challenging theft case, recovering valuable stolen items including 27.86 grams of gold. Addressing public health and safety, one illegal medical shop has been sealed, ensuring compliance with regulations. The Kathua Police have demonstrated their commitment to community welfare by tracing and reuniting 12 missing persons with their families.
A dedicated drive against illegal mining has also been a key feature of her first month, resulting in the seizure of a substantial 61 vehicles involved in such illicit activities. The fight against illicit liquor trade saw the confiscation of 269 bottles of illegal liquor.
