Jammu, Nov 09: In a commendable initiative aimed at reinforcing police-public relations and ensuring a strong on-ground presence, the Jammu Police, South Zone, conducted an extensive on-foot area domination and public interaction drive under the dynamic leadership of Superintendent of Police (SP) South Jammu, Ajay Sharma, JKPS.
The drive—an innovative idea conceptualized by SP South Ajay Sharma himself—reflects his forward-thinking approach to community-oriented policing. Known for his integrity, dedication, and tireless commitment to maintaining law and order, SP Sharma has been working relentlessly to make Jammu a safer and more peaceful society. His people-centric initiatives continue to earn him wide public appreciation and growing respect among citizens.
The on-foot march began from Wave Mall and concluded at Makkah Masjid, Bathindi, covering several key market areas, public spaces, and residential localities. The exercise was aimed at enhancing police visibility, reviewing deployment, and assessing the prevailing law and order situation across the South Zone.
During the drive, SP South, accompanied by SDPOs and SHOs of the zone, interacted with local residents, traders, and youth, patiently listening to their concerns regarding public safety, traffic regulation, and community well-being. He encouraged the youth to actively collaborate with the police in maintaining peace and harmony and to stand united against social evils such as drug abuse, reckless driving, and other anti-social behaviour.
At Makkah Masjid, SP South also held an engaging meeting with local youth, fostering an open dialogue on community policing and drug abuse prevention. The participants lauded the initiative, terming it a refreshing example of participative policing and expressing gratitude for the department’s outreach efforts.
SP Ajay Sharma directed all SHOs under his jurisdiction to conduct regular foot patrols, maintain close contact with citizens, and adopt a zero-tolerance approach towards elements attempting to disrupt peace.
The Jammu Police reiterated its unwavering commitment to the philosophy of “Police for the People”, assuring that such community interaction drives will continue across the district to enhance public confidence and ensure the safety and security of every citizen.
