Jammu, October 14, 2025: In a spectacular display of community spirit, patriotic fervour, and a profound connection with its people, the Jammu and Kashmir Police, in vibrant collaboration with the Police Wives Welfare Association (PWWA), today hosted the Police Diwali Mela 2025 at Gulshan Ground, Jammu. The event, inaugurated by the Honourable Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Shri Manoj Sinha, transcended a mere celebration, transforming into one of the year’s most vibrant and community-centric gatherings, reinforcing the force’s enduring commitment to social harmony, welfare, and the cherished legacy of its brave martyrs.
Upon his arrival, the Honourable Lieutenant Governor was accorded a ceremonial welcome, symbolizing the deep respect for his leadership. Shri Manoj Sinha lit the traditional lamp, formally commencing the festivities, and, in a moving gesture, paid solemn tributes to the martyrs of J&K Police, whose supreme sacrifices continue to inspire generations of police personnel. The event itself began with the resonant notes of the National Anthem, performed impeccably by the BSF Band, followed by a heartfelt welcome song from the students of Police Public School, Jammu, dedicated as a gesture of gratitude to the force’s fallen heroes.
The Lieutenant Governor, accompanied by a host of senior officers including DGP J&K, Shri Nalin Prabhat, IPS; DG Home Guards/Civil Defence, Shri A.G. Mir, IPS; ADGP HQs, Shri M.K. Sinha, IPS; ADGP Armed, Shri Anand Jain, IPS; Director SKPA Udhampur, Shri Garib Das, IPS; Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Shri Ramesh Kumar, IAS; and IGP Jammu, Shri Bhim Sen Tuti, IPS, meticulously inspected the numerous stalls. These vibrant displays, set up by Police Welfare Centres, various government departments, and local entrepreneurs, showcased a rich tapestry of handicrafts, traditional artefacts, local delicacies, clothing, and decorative items. The LG engaged warmly with police families and civilian participants, expressing appreciation for their participation and creative displays.
Throughout the day, Gulshan Ground remained abuzz with excitement, embodying a rich blend of entertainment, art, culture, and social awareness. A diverse array of competitions and performances ensured a festive and engaging atmosphere. Families enthusiastically participated in events such as the Rangoli competition, a Healthy Baby contest, Tambola, and a Fancy-Dress competition for children, alongside a captivating Magic Show. The main stage resonated with melodious songs, energetic dances, and orchestral performances, adding continuous vibrancy to the day’s celebrations.
The cultural segment was a particular highlight, featuring mesmerizing performances by celebrated artists such as Sonali Dogra, Shubam Shiva, Inspector Rakesh Jamwal, Zulekha Fareed, Netra Tickoo, Parthi Dar, and Anmol from Muskaan Trust. Their renditions were beautifully complemented by traditional Dogri folk ‘Gitru’ and patriotic multilingual dances presented by the J&K Cultural Academy, brilliantly reflecting the region’s rich diversity and artistic heritage. Students from Mount Litera School and Srijan International School presented impressive group dances and thematic performances, including a powerful Shiv Tandav and a Mahabharata-based dance act, which garnered loud applause from an appreciative audience. RJ Shewtima and RJ Juhi from Radio 92.7 Big FM expertly hosted segments, engaging the audience with games, quizzes, and music. The District Orchestra Team, the Police Band, and a spirited Bhangra display by Harman Dance Academy further energized the crowd, while a Nukkad Natak by Sargam Cultural Group, Samba, delivered a strong social message on community harmony and civic responsibility.
A truly spectacular highlight of the evening was the Light and Sound Show, followed by a dazzling Laser and Fireworks Display that magnificently illuminated the night sky. This captivating visual spectacle powerfully symbolized the spirit of Diwali – the eternal victory of light over darkness and good over evil – and was accompanied by live instrumental music, lending a grand finale to the celebrations.
The Mela also hosted a solemn felicitation ceremony. Director General of Police, Shri Nalin Prabhat, IPS, along with DGP JKP (Retd.), Shri Kuldeep Khoda, IPS, and DG CID and Prisons J&K (Retd.), Shri Ashok Bhan, IPS, presented awards to meritorious students of Police Public School, acknowledging their academic excellence. Mementos were presented to all participating schools, cultural groups, and performers for their invaluable contributions.
Throughout the day, special traffic police arrangements ensured smooth vehicular movement around Gulshan Ground, while dedicated security and crowd management teams maintained a safe and comfortable environment for all attendees. The Police Diwali Mela 2025 stood as a vibrant symbol of the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s deep, enduring connection with the people it serves. It reflected the force’s unwavering efforts to promote social harmony, support police welfare activities, and keep alive the profound legacy of its brave martyrs whose sacrifices continue to safeguard peace and prosperity in the region.
