Police Busts Rajeev Nagar Drug Network, Seizes 280.5g Heroin, ₹35 Lakh Stolen Property; Hardcore Criminal with 18 FIRs Apprehended in Bahu Fort Crackdown Under SSP Jammu’s Command

• In a relentless crackdown on narco-terror and organized crime, Jammu Police’s South Zone, led by SDPO City East Sheezan Bhat and SHO Bahu Fort Sushil Choudhary, achieved twin breakthroughs: busting a drug peddling network with the arrest of a husband-wife duo and Vishal, seizing 280.5 grams of heroin, and apprehending notorious thief Basharat Mahmood with 7 stolen vehicles and 26 tower batteries worth ₹35 lakh.
• The drug bust, which included recoveries from the Rajeev Nagar hotspot, adds to a remarkable 8-month tally of 31 NDPS FIRs, 1.183 kg heroin seized, and 35 arrests in Sub Division East, while Basharat Mahmood, a hardcore criminal with 18 FIRs and a history of escaping custody, was nabbed after a violent confrontation in Bathindi.
• These decisive operations, conducted under the direct supervision of the officers and the overall command of SSP Jammu Joginder Singh, JKPS, underscore the Jammu Police’s intensified efforts to dismantle criminal syndicates, recover stolen property, and curb drug trafficking, with financial investigations now initiated to trace proceeds of crime.

Jammu, September 22, 2025: Jammu Police’s South Zone has delivered a resounding double blow against the twin scourges of narco-terror and organized crime, orchestrating two significant operations that have resulted in the apprehension of a husband-wife drug peddling duo, the seizure of a commercial quantity of heroin, and the capture of a notorious hardcore criminal along with stolen vehicles and tower batteries worth approximately ₹35 lakh. These simultaneous crackdowns, spearheaded by SDPO City East, Sheezan Bhat, JKPS, and SHO Bahu Fort, Inspector Sushil Choudhary, showcase a formidable display of policing prowess under the overall command and guidance of SSP Jammu, Joginder Singh, JKPS.

In a major breakthrough against drug trafficking, on September 20, 2025, during a routine checking at a naka (checkpoint) at Railway Pulli, Narwal, a team from Police Station Bahu Fort apprehended Vishal, son of Ajay, a resident of Ludhiana and currently residing in Rajeev Nagar. Upon his search, 265 grams of heroin (‘Chitta’) and an electronic weighing machine were recovered. Subsequent investigation led to the arrest of two more accused, a husband-wife duo: Gogi, son of Neep Ram, and Reema, wife of Gogi, both residents of Rajeev Nagar, Narwal, Jammu. From their possession, an additional 15 grams of heroin and another electronic weighing machine were recovered. A case under FIR No. 279/2025 has been registered at Police Station Bahu Fort under Sections 8, 21, 22, and 29 of the NDPS Act. This recovery is part of a larger crackdown by Sub Division East in hotspots like Rajeev Nagar and Qasim Nagar, which in the last eight months alone has achieved remarkable results: 31 FIRs registered under the NDPS Act, 1 kilogram 183 grams of heroin recovered (worth ₹2–3 crore in the international market), 10 kilograms of Ganja seized, 35 accused persons arrested, and 220 individuals booked under preventive actions for drug-related activities. The source and intended destination of the recovered contraband are being probed, with a financial investigation initiated to seize the proceeds of drug trafficking.

Parallel to the narcotics bust, Jammu Police’s South Zone achieved another significant victory against organized crime with the apprehension of Basharat Mahmood, a hardcore habitual offender, and the recovery of seven stolen vehicles and 26 tower batteries with a total value of approximately ₹35 lakh. On September 17, 2025, while on routine patrolling duty in Pir Bagh Colony, Bathindi, police personnel noticed Basharat Mahmood, son of Kabir Hussain, a resident of Niru Jaal, Rajouri, presently residing in Bathindi, attempting to avoid them. When approached for verification, the suspect violently resisted, spraying a harmful substance into the eyes of a police officer and attacking the team with an iron rod, injuring SGCT Mohd. Arshad. Despite his violent resistance, Basharat Mahmood was apprehended after strenuous efforts. A case under FIR No. 276/2025, invoking Sections 109, 121, 123 of the BNS, was registered at Police Station Bahu Fort. On sustained questioning, Basharat Mahmood confessed to multiple vehicle thefts. Recoveries linked to him include seven stolen vehicles (Alto JK02AD-4022, Alto JK02AD-2596, Ecco Van JK02AU-0305, Alto JK02Q-7636, Scooty JK11H-3121, Wagon-R PB06H-5353, and an Alto without number, Engine No. 3365809), along with 26 stolen tower batteries recovered from one of the vehicles. Basharat Mahmood is a notorious criminal with 18 FIRs against him across multiple police stations and a history of escaping police custody, even from the premises of the Honourable High Court. This arrest brings immense relief to telecom companies and locals plagued by frequent thefts of tower batteries and vehicles.

Both these high-impact operations were executed by SHO Bahu Fort, Inspector Sushil Choudhary, with crucial support from ICPP Narwal (for the drug bust) and I/C Police Post Bathindi (for the theft case), all under the close supervision of SDPO City East, Sheezan Bhat, JKPS, and the overall command of SSP Jammu.
