The principal accused, Anil Kumar Sahni, a resident of West Champaran, Bihar, was apprehended from Kulgam, bringing a rapid and definitive end to the intense manhunt. The horrific incident came to light on the evening of September 8, 2025, around 4:00 PM, when Banihal Police Station received information about three bodies lying beneath a culvert on National Highway-44 in Rattanbas. During rigorous questioning, the accused, Anil Kumar Sahni, reportedly confessed to his involvement in the brutal murders. Inspector Ashiq Bukhari indicated that the motive behind the killings stemmed from an illicit relationship. “The accused is already married and has three children. It was an extramarital affair,” Inspector Bukhari stated, revealing the tragic context. The police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Section 103 (murder), and further investigation is ongoing to establish the precise sequence of events and the exact reasons behind the heinous crime.
