Jammu, August 19, 2025: Signalling a new era of proactive governance and uncompromising accountability, MLA Akhnoor, Mohan Lal, today unveiled an ambitious development agenda for his constituency, approving works worth over ₹50 crores, while simultaneously declaring an all-out war on corruption. Addressing a comprehensive Public Darbar at the Floriculture Training and Awareness Center, the legislator delivered stern warnings to government officials, making it unequivocally clear that any dereliction of duty or connivance with criminal elements would be met with swift and severe legal consequences.
The Public Darbar, presided over by SDM Akhnoor, Mukhtar Lone, and attended by DDC Bhushan Bral and Executive Engineers from all major departments, saw a large number of locals voice long-standing grievances. Among the most pressing issues highlighted were the fraudulent issuance of revenue records, alarming discrepancies in electricity supply, alleged misappropriation of property within the Cooperative Marketing Society, and widespread illegal settlements along the banks of the Chenab River by bovine smugglers and encroachers. Concerns were also prominently raised regarding the functioning of the Jal Shakti, Public Works, Flood Control, Irrigation, and Health sectors. MLA Mohan Lal swiftly issued on-the-spot directions to the concerned officials for immediate relief and redressal.
In a powerful demonstration of his commitment to clean governance, the MLA specifically targeted the alleged fraudulent practices in the revenue department. He directed authorities to initiate decisive action against revenue officers accused of complicity in issuing fraudulent records, specifically referring to the egregious case of a ‘dead man’s fard’ where an official land document was allegedly issued in the name of a deceased individual. In a significant development, it has been confirmed that the Tehsildar Akhnoor has already lodged an official complaint, leading to the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) under Section 318 BNS at the concerning police station. A senior police official, a DSP, has assured reporters that this case, being fully documented, will be fast-tracked, with immediate action to interrogate and apprehend the individuals involved.
Further extending his anti-corruption drive, MLA Mohan Lal came down heavily on officials of the Cooperative Marketing Society, directing authorities to pursue charges of misappropriation. He also lambasted the Executive Engineer (Xen) of the Power Development Department (PDD) for what he termed “irresponsible services,” demanding that faulty transformers be replaced on the same day and that issues of low voltage be addressed without delay. The legislator instructed the SDPO Akhnoor to lead a drive to identify and take prompt action against all illegal occupants and unauthorized constructions along the Chenab riverbank, emphasizing the need to dismantle such networks and restore peace and harmony.
Mohan Lal also highlighted his consistent efforts to expedite development works. He informed the public that several longstanding issues had already been resolved under his tenure, including the disbursement of long-pending land compensation cases, the successful shifting of Jourian Hospital to its new building, and the completion of critical flood protection projects along the Chenab. With an additional ₹50 crores approved for new works, the MLA conveyed a clear message of sustained progress and infrastructure enhancement.
The Public Darbar drew widespread appreciation from the local populace, who lauded MLA Mohan Lal’s transparent and decisive approach. Citizens urged that such interactive platforms be organized on a monthly basis to ensure greater accountability and direct access to the administration, reinforcing hope for a future where responsive governance truly prevails and corruption finds no refuge in Akhnoor.
