Inquiry Ordered into Alleged Medical Malpractice in 10-Year-Old’s Death and Viral Video of Brutal Assault on 12-Year-Old Student

Surankote, August 11, 2025: In a decisive display of administrative urgency, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Surankote has ordered a swift and exhaustive investigation into two separate and deeply disturbing incidents involving minor children-one concerning the tragic death of a 10-year-old boy after receiving an injection, and the other the brutal physical assault of a 12-year-old madrasa student. These episodes have convulsed the Pir Panjal region, sparking widespread public sorrow and indignation, while a conspicuous and troubling silence from local political leaders has fueled allegations of influential figures attempting to shield the accused.
The first case revolves around the untimely and tragic death of Zahid Ahmed, the 10-year-old son of Mushtaq Hussain from Rajara, Dodi village. According to preliminary allegations, the young boy had visited the medical establishment of one Abdul Aziz at Eidgah Market, Hari, seeking treatment. It is alleged that the shopkeeper administered an injection, following which Zahid Ahmed’s condition deteriorated, and he tragically passed away. Unverified intelligence suggests that this may not be an isolated incident at this establishment, a possibility that significantly magnifies the gravity of the case and the urgency of the investigation.
The second, equally heinous incident, involves 12-year-old Anas Iqbal, son of Mohammad Iqbal from the Marhote area. The boy, a student at a local madrasa, was allegedly subjected to a violent and merciless physical assault by one Maulana Javed Ahmed. The assault was reportedly carried out without the consent or knowledge of the child’s parents. Public outrage over this incident has been intensified by graphic video footage of the alleged abuse, which has proliferated across social media platforms, sparking moral indignation and demands for immediate and severe action against the perpetrator.
Responding to the gravity of these two separate but equally deplorable incidents, the SDM Surankote, Farooq Nazki, has promulgated a formal order (No: SDM/SKT/ESTT/2025-26/1108-1111, dated August 11, 2025). The directive mandates the Station House Officer (SHO) of Police Station Surankote to initiate a scrupulous, impartial, and participatory inquiry into both cases. A key component of the order is the insistence on the substantive involvement of the victims’ parents and bona fide family members in the investigative process, ensuring transparency and trust. The findings of the investigation, along with any punitive or remedial actions taken, are to be submitted to the SDM’s office at the earliest possible juncture.
To ensure institutional synergy and high-level oversight, copies of this order have been dispatched to the Deputy Commissioner Poonch, the Senior Superintendent of Police Poonch, and the Deputy Superintendent of Police Surankote for their immediate cognizance and concerted action.
However, a deeply concerning aspect of this entire affair has been the deafening silence from local political leaders. Despite the significant public uproar and the serious nature of the allegations, no prominent political figure has come forward to condemn the incidents or demand justice for the victims. This perceived inaction is drawing sharp criticism from civil society and is fueling allegations that certain influential figures may be tacitly backing the accused individuals, attempting to shield them from legal scrutiny. This has led to a growing sentiment that the sanctity of child welfare must be held above any political affiliations or personal connections.
The administration has underscored the ethical imperative of delivering a firm, exemplary, and deterrent response to not only provide justice to the aggrieved families but also to obviate any recurrence of such acts. The two incidents have served as a grim reminder of the vulnerabilities faced by children, and the community is now looking towards the authorities to uphold the majesty of the law and safeguard the well-being of its youngest and most defenceless members.
