Rajouri, August 8: Acting on a complaint, the Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), on Friday, trapped and arrested Umar Nawaz, a Junior Assistant posted in the office of the Sub-Registrar Rajouri, for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 4,000.
Umar Nawaz was deployed in the Office of the Sub-Registrar Rajouri vide District Administration Order No. DCR/2025-26/Estt/211-14 dated 26.06.2025.
While officially posted in the office of the Collector Agrarian Reforms Rajouri, he was assigned additional duties in the Sub-Registrar’s office to assist with routine work until further orders.
According to ACB officials, acting on a complaint, the Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Friday, arrested Umar Nawaz, a Junior Assistant posted in the office of the Assistant Commissioner Revenue (ACR) Rajouri, for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 4,000.
The complainant had approached the ACB alleging that Nawaz, who also held additional charge as Junior Assistant in the Sub-Registrar Office Rajouri, had demanded Rs 15,000 to process the registration of 3 marlas of land in his name.
After negotiation, the bribe amount was reduced to Rs 4,000.
Unwilling to pay, the complainant reported the matter to the ACB, prompting the registration of FIR No. 04/2025 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018) at the ACB Police Station, Rajouri.
A trap was subsequently laid, during which Umar Nawaz-son of Naseer Hussain, resident of Saaz, Tehsil Thanamandi-was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe.
The bribe money was recovered from his possession in the presence of independent witnesses, and he was immediately taken into custody in accordance with proper legal procedure.
ACB teams also searched the accused’s residence in Thanamandi, Rajouri. Further investigation is underway.
