Jammu, Jun 25: In a strong show of public support for law enforcement, senior BJP leader and MLA from Jammu district, Mr Yudhvir Sethi, has lauded the Jammu Police-particularly the efforts of the SHO, Police Station Bakshi Nagar-for their bold and impactful action of publicly parading a recently apprehended thief. The move, aimed at deterring rising criminal activities, has received widespread appreciation from citizens and political leaders alike.
Speaking in an interview, Mr Sethi firmly defended the police action, calling it a “justified and necessary step to protect society from emboldened criminals.” He stated that such visible and decisive actions serve as a powerful deterrent in times when the threat of thefts and street crimes is becoming a serious concern for peace-loving residents of Jammu.
Mr Sethi emphasized that the thief in question was not just a petty criminal, but an individual found in possession of a sharp-edged weapon, indicating a clear intent to harm or possibly injure civilians in the course of his unlawful acts. “A person who not only steals but also roams armed, prepared to attack innocent, law-abiding citizens does not deserve the shield of human rights rhetoric. He must face the consequences in a manner that sets an example for others,” he said.
The public parade of the accused, carried out under legal supervision, was described by Mr Sethi as an act of responsible policing under social compulsion, driven by the growing demand for visible action and accountability in the face of increasing public anxiety over urban crime.
He further praised the Jammu Police for their commitment to maintaining law and order, saying that such bold measures reflect the force’s determination to ensure a crime-free society. “The police are not only protecting us-they are reclaiming the public’s trust. Acts like these send a clear message to anti-social elements that crime will not go unchecked,” he noted.
The incident has sparked a broader conversation about effective crime prevention and the need for strong policing to restore public confidence. The local population has expressed solidarity with the police, with many residents hailing the initiative as a step in the right direction to bring back discipline, deterrence, and safety in public spaces.
The Jammu Police, under the leadership of proactive officers, continues to set examples in community protection and accountability, and this latest action is being seen as a model of courageous and community-focused policing.
