Udhampur, April 01, 2025: Udhampur district is witnessing a determined and successful assault on the narcotics trade, spearheaded by the dynamic leadership of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Amod Ashok Nagpure, IPS. The first quarter of 2025 (January to March) saw the Udhampur Police force launch an intensified, multi-pronged offensive against drug trafficking, resulting in significant arrests, substantial seizures of illicit substances, and a major crackdown on assets acquired through criminal proceeds.
The statistics from this three-month period underscore the intensity and effectiveness of the crackdown. Udhampur Police registered a total of 27 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. These targeted operations led directly to the arrest of 33 individuals caught engaging in drug-related activities. Showing a clear intent to disrupt the operations of habitual offenders and kingpins, the police also detained three key individuals under the stringent Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act and the Public Safety Act (PSA), ensuring they remain off the streets. The logistical capabilities of these drug networks were also significantly hampered with the seizure of 11 vehicles identified as being used for the transportation of narcotics.
The physical seizures during this period were substantial, dealing a major blow to the supply chain. Officers recovered 171.82 grams of deadly Heroin, 96 grams of Charas, a large haul of 40 kilograms of Poppy Straw, and 96 grams of Ganja. The estimated black-market value of these confiscated narcotics stands at a significant ?52.32 lakh, representing a considerable financial loss for the criminal elements involved.
SSP Nagpure’s strategy clearly extends beyond just seizing drugs and making arrests; it focuses on dismantling the financial foundations of these criminal enterprises. In a powerful demonstration of this commitment, properties worth an impressive ?1.49 crore, identified as being linked to both narcotics trafficking and bovine smuggling activities, were attached by the police during this quarter. These assets, believed to be acquired through the proceeds of crime, include a residential flat, three heavy-duty trucks, two cars, and a Tata Mobile goods carrier. This decisive action strikes at the heart of the criminals’ operational capabilities and ill-gotten wealth.
