Police works 24×7! Jammu police solves Sumit Jandyal murder case, 11 accused arrested

Jammu, Feb 05: In a major breakthrough, Jammu Police has successfully worked out the murder case of Sumit Jandyal, which occurred on January 21, 2025. At approximately 1:40 PM, unknown assailants opened fire on Sumit Jandyal while he was traveling in his red-colored Thar bearing registration No. JK21G/0770 near Jewel Rotary. The attackers fled the scene after snatching a grey-colored Scooty bearing registration No. JK02DL/8834. The injured victim was promptly shifted to GMC Jammu, where he was declared brought dead by the doctors.
In response to this heinous act, senior police officers visited the crime scene, and multiple police teams were dispatched in different directions to gather vital leads. Using human intelligence, technical analysis, and CCTV footage, the assailants were soon identified.
Given the gravity of the situation, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was constituted by SSP Jammu, Joginder Singh, to investigate the case further. The SIT rounded up approximately 30 suspects and conducted raids across Jammu, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh.
During the investigation, it was revealed that the murder was the result of a longstanding rivalry between Vikas Slathia alias Vicky Slathia from Mandi Gharota, Vijaypur, and Sumit Jandyal from Vijaypur. The animosity stemmed from the 2023 murder of Akshay Kumar by Vikas Slathia’s group in Ramgarh. Following this, in a daring police raid at GMC Kathua related to Akshay Kumar’s murder case, a crossfire ensued between police teams and gangsters. In this encounter, PSI Deepak Sharma was martyred, and notorious criminal Vasudev Kumar (alias Shunnu) was killed.
In retaliation for Vasudev Kumar’s death, Vikas Slathia masterminded the murder of Sumit Jandyal. Harsh Singh (alias Banta), a resident of Bikram Chowk, Jammu, was already in contact with Vikas Slathia and was tasked with organizing the execution of the crime. To carry out the murder, a room was rented in Shastri Nagar, and weapons were sourced from outside Jammu and Kashmir.
A black-colored Alto car (No. JK02AP/6546) was purchased for Rs. 1,05,000 approximately a week before the murder, specifically for reconnaissance and execution of the crime. Detailed surveillance of Sumit Jandyal’s movements had been conducted for the past four months to plan the murder.
Through extensive investigation, Jammu Police has recovered the Alto car bearing registriation No. JK02AP/6546 and an I20 car bearing registration No. JK12C/5339 used in the crime. The Scooty bearing registration No. JK02DL/8834, which was snatched by the assailants after the murder, was also recovered from different locations in Jammu and Samba districts.
As of now, 11 individuals, including two juveniles, have been arrested in connection with the murder. These arrests include the shooters, conspirators, co-accused, and harborers. Jammu Police is continuing its efforts to apprehend the remaining accused involved in the execution of this crime.
Moreover, authorities are working to trace the financial transactions involved in planning and executing the murder. The primary conspirator, who orchestrated the murder from outside India, has been identified. Efforts are underway to ensure the deportation of the accused back to India for further legal proceedings.
Jammu Police remains committed to eradicating crime in the region, with a special emphasis on combating gangsterism. Authorities have issued a stern warning to rogue elements to abandon the path of crime, or they will face the full force of the law.
