Akhnoor, July 22, 2024: In a swift and decisive operation, Akhnoor Police, in collaboration with Gharota Police, have apprehended three individuals involved in the brutal assault of a 32-year-old man in Akhnoor last Saturday. The victim, Sanjeev Kumar, son of senior BJP leader Dev Raj Bhagat, was attacked with sharp-edged weapons near Chandian Ghat, sustaining serious injuries.
Following the assault, Sanjeev Kumar identified two of his attackers as Vishal Sharma alias Vishu, a resident of Galwaday Chak, Tehsil Marh, Vikas Singh alias Vinay, a resident of Kot Garhi Bomal, Tehsil Akhnoor. He also mentioned three other unidentified individuals involved in the attack.
Akhnoor police registered FIR No. 134/2024 under sections 109/115(2)/191(2)/191(3) of the BNS and 4/25 of the Arms Act, launching an immediate investigation. Working under the supervision of SDPO Akhnoor Mohan Sharma, SHO Akhnoor Tariq Ahmed led a team that meticulously analysed evidence and pursued leads. Their efforts were closely monitored by SP Rural Brijesh Sharma and SSP Jammu.
On Monday morning, a breakthrough was achieved when a raid in the Ring Road area of Bawe Talab led to the arrest of Vishal Sharma alias Vishu and Vikas Singh alias Vinay. The weapons used in the assault were recovered based on their disclosures.
Simultaneously, Gharota Police, acting on intelligence received by their patrolling party, raided the office premises of a property dealer in Kalri, Ring Road, where they apprehended Santokh Singh. During the raid, two Tokas (sharp-edged weapons) were recovered from Santokh Singh’s possession. This arrest was a joint effort by SHO Akhnoor Tariq Ahmed and SHO Gharota Arjun Magotra, under the supervision of SDPO Akhnoor Mohan Sharma and close monitoring by SP Rural Brijesh Sharma and SSP Jammu.
A case under FIR No. 70/24, section 4/25 of the Arms Act, was registered at Gharota Police Station against Santokh Singh. It was discovered that Santokh Singh had provided shelter to the assailants after the attack, further implicating him in the crime.
