Jammu, Jun 25: Despite numerous suggestions made time to time to adopt more effective road repair methods, the Public Works (R&B) Department continues to repair the Satwari to RS Pura Road without removing the existing upper layer of asphalt. This method of simply placing new layers on top of old ones has been widely criticized for failing to address the fundamental issues of road maintenance.
Ignoring suggestions: There are suggestions about the proper way to repair roads is by removing the old asphalt layers before adding new ones. This approach ensures a stable foundation and prevents the road level from rising excessively. However, the PW(R&B) Department has disregarded these suggestions, opting instead for what many see as a superficial fix.
Superficial fixes and showmanship: The current practice of layering new asphalt over old is perceived as a means to quickly show visible progress rather than achieving durable and long-lasting repairs. Calls for transparency: There should be transparency and accountability in the road repair process. There is a strong push for an investigation into the repair history of the Satwari to RS Pura Road to understand the frequency and effectiveness of the repairs conducted over the past five years.
