Jun 28: It is incredible but it is true that the staff of Government ITI Shopian was forced to contribute Rs 5000 those who are in superior services including contractual and Rs 3000 from those who are working as fourth class for royal send off on the superannuation of a royal Superintendent and the most intriguing part of the story that many people are invited from outside the institution, which is mockery in itself.
The source on the condition of anonymity told the JJ team that the etiquette of office send off is not followed in arranging a farewell party for Superintendent Govt. ITI Shopian on his date of superannuation on 30th June, 2022. The employees opine that on such occasions they usually did something on small scale to let the outgoing employee know that they wish him well. It could be something as easy as a cup of kehwa with a kulcha or as elaborate as a kabab with a roottee. It does not suit the occasion to have a full feast of Kashmiri wazawan on lunch or dinner. A brunch suits the occasion well. Since the organisation is not a company with a separate budget for such functions, here it is a routine that the employees of a small unit contribute out of their pockets to arrange the party.
The employees in general here complain that they have been compelled to pay Rs. 5000 each to the organiser, who in turn sent invitation cards to all the chosen ones officers and officials of the Directorate and Joint Directorate Srinagar. Also he invited the principals and superintendents, including the retired ones, from whole of South.
The employees of the said office are doing it unwillingly as they don’t find any sense in feasting the colleagues of high ranks of the department on such an occasion on their own expenditure.
Further they say that they have to plan it around a time frame that disrupts the natural flow of the office routine from Directorate to Joint Directorate to all the ITIs of the South, including the host one. The employees, however, were all praise for the outgoing Superintendant, during his tenure regarding the curtailed expenditure on any such a party in the office and he always laid stress on thriftiness.
