The people of Jammu Division and particularly the people of plains of this division are facing an unexpected summer this year. There has been a gradual rise in the temperature since the last few years and this year many people feel it is really unexceptional. People are facing dry and hot weather conditions which are unbearable even for the healthiest person. The condition of aged persons and children is unexplainable. And for the sick this high temperature is not less than hell. But this is not the end of the misery of the people, the erratic supply of power and irregular supply of water like spraying salt on the wounds of the people. But for the government Jammu and Kashmir has entered in a new era of development, a development which is described by the administration as unprecedented. According to the government and its agencies the people of Jammu and Kashmir had been living in pre pre-independence era for a couple of years. It is claimed everyday that the present government has made Jammu and Kashmir UT a model of development. Few days back two villages of Jammu were declared as ‘Iconic Villages’. But the truth is what the people of Jammu and Kashmir are feeling now and majority of them in fact barring few groups all the people of UT are now realizing what they have achieved after losing the status of ‘State’ and of a ‘Special State’. But why is the climatic temperature of Jammu rising with every coming year for the last couple of years. If we look at the surroundings of the Jammu the fact will automatically come over the surface. The government amended the ‘Land Laws’ which allowed the sale of forest and agricultural lands for commercial purposes. This decision, which the government is claiming is a historical decision and a step to generate employment opportunities and will usher in an era of prosperity in Jammu and Kashmir, has in fact proved to be disastrous. Government has destroyed the greenery of the region which has resulted in a sudden and steep rise in temperature. If people of Jammu will not stand against this very soon this beautiful and green region will be converted into a desert.
