Where is the Traffic police?

Jammu city now very easily can be called a city of traffic jams. It is not a joke but a fact and can be checked any day on the roads of the city except the roads which are frequently used by VIP’s. Most of the traffic jams are because of mismanagement of the traffic police and the concerned departments and agencies. Barring a few VIP roads one will hardly find any traffic constable. The sudden disappearance of traffic police and the cranes, which were used to lift the vehicles parked at no parking zone, is really surprising. Few years back there had been traffic policemen on the roads controlling the traffic, making efforts for the smooth flow of the traffic and penalizing the violators of traffic rules. This was not occasional but was a routine work of the traffic police but now it is not even occasional. Many drivers of commercial and private vehicles including the owners can be seen using mobile phones while driving, and more surprisingly several persons while driving two wheelers also use mobile phones with one hand and control the two wheeler with another hand. Many two wheeler drivers shockingly adjust the mobile phone with the help of their shoulder and ear and drive the vehicle in a tilted position. It is worth watching a person driving two wheelers in an awkward posture using a mobile phone but no where he is checked or penalized by the concerned department. Yes it is almost a fact that hardly any such violator of traffic rules is stopped and fined accordingly by the traffic police. Dividers have been laid on several roads of the city while the national highway is completely divided with dividers for two way traffic to minimize the risk of accidents. But there are some ‘intelligent and efficient’ drivers who love to drive on the wrong side. This style or type of driving is very risky and is an open invitation to accidents. But again because of the laxity of the concerned agencies this kind of violation of traffic rules too have become very common. Above all most of the city roads are packed with wrong and unauthorized parking without any action from the concerned department. There is no action against the law breakers and more painful is the absence of traffic police on most of the city roads. It is really a matter to worry about the expected traffic scenario in the near future.
