Traffic Cranes
There had been a time when the cranes of the traffic department were an alarm for vehicles parked in unauthorized places. But these cranes on the other hand were very famous and were given a kind of respect by the common man as they used to lift the unauthorized parked vehicles on the road and then the drivers or owners were penalized. In Jammu also these cranes were put into use and these yielded good results. This action of the government and traffic department worked as a deterrent among those who were habitual of wrong parking. These cranes have in a long way helped to make the roads clear from the wrongly parked vehicles which were and are still a major reason for heavy traffic jams. But those cranes have suddenly disappeared from the roads which encouraged the wrong parking and finally traffic jams have now become very common on most of the roads of Jammu city. Why those cranes have been withdrawn and what were those circumstances which compelled the traffic department to take those cranes off the road are not known to the common man. But it is a fact that the withdrawal of those cranes has certainly proved to be the wrong decision of the concerned department. After the withdrawal of the traffic cranes from the roads the traffic jams caused by wrong parking have become a common occurrence and people have to face this problematic situation daily on most of the city roads for long hours. Government must re-introduce that crane or unauthorized parked vehicle lifting system without any delay. The traffic jams have now reached a position of unbearable as this causes not only a very big loss of petrol and diesel but also the precious time of the working class. Employees of the government and private sector remain stuck for a long time in the traffic jams and most of the employees fail to reach their respective offices in time only because of wrong parking. Students, aged persons and ladies are also the sufferers of this nuisance of some drivers who never care for the inconvenience of others. These drivers are in fact habitual violators of traffic laws. They must be punished and should be heavily fined. Most of the drivers park their vehicles in front of the shops and go shopping while sitting in their vehicles without any worry about those who are stuck on the road because of their wrong parking.
