Talking about the Tawi river, the question is raised in the heart that this river, which plays with the heart from Sadion to this city, comes from where and then leaves us! Tawi is born from a glacier called Kali Kundi in Doda district. This glacier is present in the mountainous area of the south-west of Bhadervah, famous for its unmatched natural beauty. From there, this beautiful daughter Tawi river flows like a small mountain girl, making tricks from the rock towards the plains. After this it enters the district of Udhampur, where its speed and jumping starts decreasing. After Udhampur, it starts flowing almost silently and enters the district of Jammu shortly before the holy place of Baba-Bhair deity. Talking about the Tawi river, the question is raised in the heart that where from this river, which runs from heart to this city for centuries, comes from and where it goes, what is the speed of this river after reaching Jammu ? But while it reaches near Jammu the width goes on increasing. Its width near the old bridge of Tawi is about 300 meters i.e. close to 980 feet. After the Tawi bridge, this river becomes more and more sluggish and its  width of the river gets more widened. In this way, it crosses the border of Jammu and enters the Punjab province of Pakistan, where it meets the mighty Chenab River. This holy Tawi river, originating from Kali Kundi Glacier, after travelling for about 88 miles i.e. about 141 kilometres, goes towards the Sea after joining the Chenab River. From this small but beautiful journey, the River Tawi has to travel about 106 km in the hilly area, whereas its journey in the plains of Jammu and Pakistan is only close to 35 km, before merging in Chenab. There is also a folk tale about this river reaching Jammu, according to which Baba Bhairh, the son of Baba Vasuki Nag, brought this River Tawi to Jammu with the blessings of Mata Kali. It is said that Baba Bhairh’s father was very ill and was in need of holy water. His wish was fulfilled by bringing the river Tawi to Baba Bhairh by worshiping Goddess Kalika. About twenty kilometres from Jammu, ahead of Nagrota, is the holy place of Baba Bhairh located in Katt-Battal village. This shrine situated on the left bank of River Tawi is highly revered by the people.
