No one will be spared in case of illegal felling says Tehsildar Maira Mandrian
*At three places in Tehsil Maira Mandrian the illegal felling of trees have been surfaced and it would be enquired at any cost.
*The lack of coordination among the three departments namely Forest, Revenue and Police has surfaced, which provides opportunity to wicked persons for illegal felling.
*The Tehsildar in a state forward way told that no one will be spared and news item published in Jammu Jottings has revitalized to take action against the culprits.
*Patwari often skips their duty to count the trees falling under their Patwar so that a concrete report may be prepared but now they have to count trees to maintain check and balance.

The issue of illegal cutting of the tree in Maira Mandrian is expanding with each passing day and the three departments have to work jointly to confiscate the trend of illegal felling, besides the three departments must have coordination among them.
The main department is Forest department, which is meant to ensure the safety and growth of the Forest and the department is ultimately working on its mandate. The second department is Revenue, which is very vast department and almost equipped with much responsibilities but it has to look after those trees which are on the land other then Forest department.
Now the role of police department comes at third place, because police will work when it is asked to work. Sometimes, police during random checking it checks the transportation of wood and detects the illegal transportation of woods and then handover to the Forest department. But actually police department supposed to be asked either by Forest or Revenue department for arresting the person involved in smuggling timber or seizing of timbers and vehicle on which it is being smuggled.
Now in this story, the Tehsildar Maira Mandrian Farooq Malik told us that he is much concerned about the illegal felling Khair trees in his tehsil and he would take every step to arrest the illegal felling of trees. He said that he would enquire the issue and take it to logical end. He said that the issue of illegal felling of Khair trees after publishing in news paper ‘Jammu Jottings’ has worked as instrumental to be more stringent towards the erring persons let it be any person may be department or civilian. He said that the legal action would be taken against those who are involved in such heinous acts.
The Tehsildar further clarified that Forest and Revenue departments are the wings of one government and it is our joint responsibility to work over this issue. He said that the issue has been discussed with concerning SDPO and the action would be taken in this issue. He assured that there will be free and fair enquiry and all the timber in the shape of sleepers or wood be recovered and the same would be handed over to forest department. He said that he is in touch with the concerned Ranger and Forest department in concern of this issue.
Now the issue is that Revenue department has many assignments but sometime they overlook their actual job. Let me tell you, which is very important to mention here and everyone should know it, often it has been seen that during expansion of road the land owner claims for the compensation for his trees other then land compensation. The most surprisingly thing which has surfaced during discussion with several people that that in some cases the claimant claims for trees compensation and he stakes claim for costly trees and also raises number of trees in his claiming application. But the issue is that if there are some trees in private land, it is duty of concerned Patwari to count the trees in his Patwar then submit the same report to his superiors for information and this should be done on regularly basis but no Patwari comply this assignment. This is the biggest lack in revenue department which gives an opportunity for illegal felling by some people are claiming for more trees actually what they have lost.
