The need of the hour that government must constitute ‘Peace Commission’ for cultivation and promotion of Peace in J&K by creating ‘Peace Ambassadors’.

Jammu, Jun 13: In a concerning development, the reports and recent incidents indicate that terrorist groups operating in Kashmir have strategically shifted their focus from Kashmir Valley to the Jammu region. This shift appears to target the Hindu population, who are more accessible in Jammu compared to the heavily militarized and predominantly Muslim Kashmir Valley.
Recent Attacks Highlight Growing Threat for Jammu peoples:
a. Shiv Khori Devotees Bus Attack: On June 10, a bus carrying Hindu pilgrims to the holy site of Shiv Khori in Reasi district was attacked. The assailants ambushed the bus on a secluded stretch of road, using automatic weapons and grenades. The attack resulted in the deaths of ten pilgrims, with over 20 others injured. The brazen attack has sent shockwaves through the region, particularly among the Hindu community.
b. Hiranagar, Kathua Attack: Just after Shiv Khori incident, terrorists launched an attack in Hiranagar, Kathua district. A group of heavily armed militants targeted a residential area known for its Hindu population.
c. Doda Attack on Minorities: Terrorists struck in the Doda district, targeting a village with a significant minority Hindu population. The incident has heightened fears among the local Hindu community, many of whom are now contemplating leaving the area for safer locations.
Strategic Shift in Terrorist Operations: Security analysts suggest that these coordinated attacks are part of a broader strategy by terrorist groups to destabilize the region by targeting Hindu minorities in Jammu. Unlike the Kashmir Valley, where security forces are densely deployed, Jammu presents a relatively softer target due to its mixed demographic and less intensive security presence.
Government Response: The Indian government has responded to these recent attacks with heightened security measures across the Jammu region. Additional troops have been deployed, and security checks have been intensified at public places and religious sites. Union Home Minister Amit Shah condemned the attacks and assured the public of the government’s commitment to eradicating terrorism.
“We will not be cowed down by these cowardly acts. Our security forces are working tirelessly to bring the perpetrators to justice. The safety and security of our citizens, particularly the minority communities, are of paramount importance,” Shah stated.

Constitution of Peace Commission: It is long term measure but it will be most effective than any other measures to minimize the violence in Jammu & Kashmir. The government of India must constitute a ‘JK Peace Commission’ to explore the possibilities for expanding the constituency of ‘Peace’ in J&K and to create a good numbers of ‘Peace Ambassadors’ (PA). These Peace Ambassadors will powerful instrument in containing the violence and to identify the violence creators. This measure will work very slowly but it will weed out the violence effectively. Moreover, J&K will be the first administrative unit (UT) in the world to have such kind of Commission, which will cultivate and promote peace in UT. Think over it.
