It is a known fact that the Jammu region has a vast potential of attracting tourists with different interests. This region offers spiritual tourism, historical tourism, adventure tourism, scenic tourism, hiking tourism, mountaineering tourism, tracking tourism and so on. But at the same time one can say that not all the regions and places of Jammu can be developed as a hub of tourism. Secondly, one must have an idea of the quality and quantity of the tourists expected to visit those places which we feel are the best one according to our own. We cannot force the visitors to visit the places which we feel are one of the best. Every visitor or tourist has some inherited interest somewhere inside him about the places which he is desirous to visit. A place which according to the tourists is worth paying a visit must have at least one of the following qualities. It should have the pleasant climate unique of its kind, it should have enormous historical significance, it should have more than normal religious importance, it should have unique landscapes, it should have beautiful water bodies, it should have ultra modernization, it should have scientific value, it should be most modern or most ancient, it should have unique and colourful cultural identity, it should have some amazing structures or monuments, it should be famous for handicrafts or handloom products, and so on. Why should a person, group or a family should spare their time, use saved money and also energy to a place which has nothing to show something which is exceptionally excellent. So except few places with natural scenic beauty, water bodies, landscapes, adventure and a couple of religious places, Jammu whole cannot be termed as a place of tourist attraction. The lower parts of the region, which include Kathua, Samba and Jammu districts, are among the ‘Kandi’ areas, so the tourists in search of natural beauty, adventure and historical places will not pay any visit. On the religious front, after Mata Vaishno Devi, one can develop only ‘Shiv Khori’. All other religious places lack that adventurism which is the main attraction of Mata Vaishno Devi and Shiv Khori. All other religious places are, according to the visitors, not as significant as these two are. Same is the case with places of scenic beauty, only few among have the potential to make the tourists stay there overnight, otherwise most of them are worth a picnic or for a short tour.
