Jammu Police smashes high-stakes crime ring, recovers Rs. 64 lakhs in gold, cash

JAMMU, MAR 27: In a massive show of tactical precision and investigative grit, the Jammu Police South Zone has crumbled crime empire by busting a “Job-for-Ransom” syndicate and solving multi-lakh gold heists.
The twin operations, conducted under the direct command of SSP Jammu and led by a specialized team of SP City South Jammu Ajay Sharma and his core officers including SDPO City East Sachit Sharma, SDPO City South Kuljit Singh, SHO Gandhi Nagar Police Station Inspector Jai Paul Sharma, SHO Bahu Fort Police Station Inspector Sushil Choudhary, SHO Bagh-e-Bahu Police Station Inspector Ashwani Sharma and Incharge Police Post Narwal PSI Sushil Kumar, resulted in the rescue of two captives, the arrest of eight criminals, and the recovery of cash and jewellery totalling a staggering ?64 lakhs.
In a high-profile press briefing today, Superintendent of Police (SP) City South Jammu, Ajay Sharma, detailed a series of successful operations that dismantled a dangerous kidnapping-for-extortion syndicate and solved multiple high-value residential thefts. Standing before a display of recovered gold, silver, and seized currency, SP Sharma highlighted the tactical precision of the South Zone teams in tracking criminals across state lines and securing the safety of Jammu’s youth.
Detailing the most harrowing case, SP Ajay Sharma explained how a specialized team rescued two local youth, Maninder Singh and Tushar Chib, from a “Job-for-Ransom” trap in West Bengal.
“This operation began following a desperate complaint lodged by Jagmohan Singh at Police Station Gandhi Nagar,” SP Sharma said, adding that the complainant reported that his son and an associate had been lured to Kolkata under the false pretext of securing overseas work visas, only to be held in wrongful confinement by unknown persons demanding a ?35 lakh ransom.”
Acting with lightning speed, SP Sharma constituted a special task force that proceeded to Kolkata. “Through advanced technical surveillance and seamless coordination with local police, our team traced the suspects to a hotel. On March 21, 2026, we successfully rescued both victims and arrested five accused persons,” Sharma confirmed.
Following the arrest, police registered FIR Number 67/2026 at Police Station Gandhi Nagar and investigation was entrusted to SI Vinay Kumar Sharma.
“We have successfully recovered ?34 lakhs in extorted cash that had been paid by the families, and we are now uncovering the full conspiracy involving Jammu-based agents Pushpinder Singh and Ajay Kumar,” the SP added.
Shifting focus to property crimes, SP Sharma announced the resolution of three major burglary cases in the Bagh-e-Bahu and Bahu Fort sectors.
“In two separate cases registered at Police Station Bagh-e-Bahu (FIR Numbers 13/2026 and 14/2026), we investigated reports of gold and silver ornaments stolen from residential houses in mid-February,” SP Sharma informed the press.
“By analyzing CCTV footage and conducting sustained interrogations, we arrested a key suspect and recovered gold ornaments worth ?26.75 lakhs out of a total stolen value of ?31 lakhs”, SP South Ajay Sharma informed.
A third theft was solved by the Narwal Police Post under Police Station Bahu Fort. “In this instance, our team identified and arrested two accused persons,” Sharma said.
“Upon their disclosure, we recovered 1.2 kg of silver and several tolas of gold earrings. This brings our total recovery for these theft cases to approximately ?30 lakh”, SP Sharma informed.
Concluding the briefing, SP Ajay Sharma issued a stern mandate to the public to prevent further exploitation by organized crime.
“I urge the citizens of Jammu: do not fall prey to fraudulent agents offering easy jobs abroad without proper verification,” SP Sharma advised.
“Verify the credentials of every travel agent and employment offer before making any payments. Furthermore, I strongly encourage residents to install CCTV cameras and ensure mandatory tenant verification. Public cooperation is vital to our mission of nipping these criminal elements in the bud”, SP South Ajay Sharma asserted.
