Unjust order of DMRRR disrupts ‘Financial Assistance’ process for POJK DPs

The date for the submission of cases for financial aid by the DPs of POJK should be extended to December 31, 2025.

Jammu, Mar 23: Why is the administration mocking the poor displaced persons of Pak-Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (POJK) by issuing nonsensical orders and treating them like fools? What is the intention behind such ludicrous directives affecting the most suffering community in the world-POJK refugees? Who is the individual responsible for ridiculing this already oppressed and wandering community? Why are such cruel jokes being made at the expense of the DPs of POJK? These are tough questions that the administration must answer, as their nonchalant approach towards the most marginalized community in the world raises serious concerns. The concerned officers must step out of their comfort zones and provide clarity on this issue.
In a baffling turn of events, the Department of Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitation, and Reconstruction (DMRRR) issued an official order on March 7, 2025, under Government Order No. JK(DMRRR) of 2025. The order detailed the formalities for acquiring financial assistance for the Displaced Persons (DPs) of Pakistan-Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (POJK) and directed the Provincial Rehabilitation Officer, Jammu, to submit all cases related to this matter before the scheme’s deadline of March 31, 2025. The order, which was clear and straightforward, was signed by Chandraker Bharti IAS, the Principal Secretary of the concerned department, leaving no room for ambiguity.
However, just days later, on March 19, 2025, the same department issued a contradictory and illogical order, referred to the Divisional Commissioner Jammu through Office Order No. DMRRR-POJK/1/2021/ dated March 19, 2025. This new directive, signed by the Director Finance of the DMRRR, stated that no cases would be considered after March 20, 2025. This abrupt and irrational change left the affected individuals in utter confusion, especially those who had been preparing to submit their cases by the original deadline of March 31.
The sudden reversal in policy has created a state of uncertainty and frustration among the POJK DPs, who were already struggling with the complexities of the application process. What was initially a well-defined and transparent system to offer much-needed financial assistance has now been clouded by contradictory orders, undermining the very people it was meant to support? The administration must carefully reconsider such ill-thought-out decisions, as they not only fail to serve the interests of the people but also hinder the genuine efforts of the displaced community to claim their rightful assistance.
The government must exercise greater sanity and foresight in policymaking, especially when it comes to vulnerable communities like the DPs of POJK. The recent order should be revoked immediately, and the deadline for submissions should be extended to December 31, 2025, allowing adequate time for all affected individuals to complete their applications. Only through thoughtful and people-centric decisions can the administration restore trust and provide real support to the POJK DPs who have long suffered from neglect and injustice.
