Jammu, Jul 05: In a significant milestone, the era of the COVID-19 pandemic has officially ended, with all restrictions imposed during the pandemic now lifted. This decision comes after extensive discussions and evaluations by leading doctors, experts and scientists, who have collectively deemed it safe to return to pre-pandemic norms.
During the pandemic, students below 12th grade were mandated to switch to online studies to avoid physical attendance in schools. While this measure was crucial in preventing the spread of the virus, it has left a lingering impact on the education system. Despite the lifting of restrictions, some schools continue to implement online studies, raising concerns among parents and health experts.
Parents are increasingly worried about the prolonged use of mobile devices for online education. They argue that extended screen time is detrimental to their children’s health, both physically and mentally. The constant exposure to screens has been linked to a range of issues, including eye strain, disrupted sleep patterns, and reduced physical activity. In light of these concerns, parents are urging the School Education Department to ban online studies and encourage a full return to in-person learning.
Health experts have also voiced their concerns, highlighting the potential long-term health risks associated with excessive mobile phone use. According to numerous studies, prolonged exposure to screens can lead to a variety of health problems, such as digital eye strain, headaches, and even more severe conditions like myopia and poor posture. Some experts warn that continued reliance on online education could exacerbate these issues, particularly among young students whose bodies and minds are still developing.
A pediatrician specializing in child health, stated, “The shift to online education was necessary during the pandemic, but now that the immediate threat of COVID-19 has passed, it is crucial for students to return to physical classrooms. The health implications of prolonged mobile use are serious and can affect students’ overall well-being.”
In response to these concerns, several parents have come together to petition the School Education Department to take immediate action. They emphasize the importance of holistic development, which is best achieved through face-to-face interactions, hands-on learning experiences, and physical activities that are integral to traditional schooling.
The School Education Department has acknowledged these concerns and stated that they are reviewing the situation. A spokesperson for the department commented, “We understand the worries of parents and health experts regarding the continued use of online education. We are in the process of consulting with educational and health professionals to determine the best course of action for the well-being of our students.”
As the nation transitions out of the pandemic era, the focus now shifts to addressing the residual effects of COVID-19 measures on students. Ensuring a smooth and healthy transition back to traditional schooling will be essential in safeguarding the health and future of the younger generation.
The Director School Education, Jammu Ashok Sharma KAS told that there is no such instructions for the schools to carry on the online studies, He said in the orders for summer vacation it is clearly mentioned that there should be no physically attendance in any school either it is run by government or by public.
