Srinagar, December 17, 2025: In an aggressive and meticulously executed campaign against drug abuse, SSP Srinagar Dr. G.V. Sundeep Chakravarthy (IPS) has spearheaded an unprecedented crackdown, leading to massive seizures, widespread arrests, and the attachment of assets worth a staggering ₹21.51 crore in 2025. This comprehensive enforcement drive underscores Srinagar Police’s unwavering commitment to dismantling drug trafficking networks and safeguarding the district’s communities from the devastating impact of narcotics.
Under the strategic direction of SSP Chakravarthy, Srinagar Police registered a total of 171 NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) cases throughout 2025. These cases reflect the pervasive nature of the drug problem, with 83 involving small quantities, 66 intermediate quantities, and a significant 22 cases dealing with commercial quantities of narcotics, indicating a direct assault on major suppliers. The intensive operations led to the apprehension of 326 persons, effectively disrupting numerous drug peddling syndicates operating across the district.
The impact on the illegal drug supply chain has been monumental, with authorities recovering substantial quantities of various illicit substances. Key seizures include 2.473 kg of Heroin, 9.110 kg of Brown Sugar, 38.583 kg of Charas, and 91.506 kg of Poppy Straw. Beyond these, police also recovered 3.950 kg of Crystal Meth / Fukki & others, 32,630 tablets/capsules, 109 injection vials, and 969 bottles of codeine-based syrups (Corex etc.). The vast and diverse nature of these seizures highlights the comprehensive reach and effectiveness of Srinagar Police in curbing the availability of illicit substances.
In a powerful financial blow to drug syndicates, Srinagar Police executed aggressive asset forfeiture actions. A total of ₹35,51,462.56 in cash was seized, and 270 bank accounts linked to drug peddlers were frozen, effectively cutting off crucial financial lifelines for these criminal enterprises. The most significant action involved the attachment of properties under the NDPS Act: 09 movable properties, valued at ₹0.311 crore, and 24 immovable properties, valued at a colossal ₹21.200 crores, bringing the total property value attached to a staggering ₹21.51 crore. This aggressive strategy aims directly at dismantling the economic infrastructure that fuels the drug trade, sending an unequivocal message that proceeds from illicit activities will be seized.
Beyond these direct enforcement measures, Srinagar Police also implemented other critical actions. A total of 68 vehicles used in drug-related activities were seized, further hindering the logistical capabilities of smugglers. Additionally, 49 individuals were preventively detained under the PIT NDPS (Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act, a stringent measure against habitual offenders and major players in the drug trade.
