Self Praise is not a new disease (yes it is a kind of mental disease), this is perhaps in existence since man became social. In many respects self praise is unsocial. But this in itself is an unending and incurable disease. Self praise is also known as Narcissism. Are we becoming Narcissists with every coming day? The answer to this question is perhaps yes in a larger context. If one is associated with social media and there are now rarest of rare persons who till date are not in one or other way associated with one or the other form of the social media. Everywhere whether the people are in the office, shopping complexes, in their homes, kitchens, classrooms, in hospitals, while travelling in any mode of transport, even while driving almost all the persons are using their smartphones and are busy with watching or posting something on social media. What is posted all day and all the time is what has been mentioned above Narcissism. Because most of the posts are related to self praising and then with an expectation that all my friends and the friends of my friends will shower their praise on the picture or video posted on social media. About ninety five present posts are nothing but self projecting and praising, with only four to five percent posts are related to a sensitive or contemporary issue. How many times can one praise a person and for what reason? The reasons affiliated with the posts are also very interesting like, “me at such and such place, me driving to such and such place, me enjoying at such and such place or occasion, me attending such as such function, me getting a memento and sometimes a video clip of dancing or lip syncing with a musical number of a film .” Is this not a sign of one becoming a ‘Narcissist’? For this purpose “Face Book” now renamed as ‘’META is used by most of the members. Besides there are several other users who have nothing to post except the images of Gods, Goddesses, Deities, and religious places with a mention that whosoever will say these words or share this will get divine gift within seconds. There is another category of social media users who spread fake and baseless stories (mostly political) to mislead and divert the attention of the people from the basic issues. All of those mentioned above are not doing any good to the society and to our coming generations but those involved in Narcissism and fake stories are the most dangerous because with their acts they are alienating the young generation from their roots, from the challenges they are and they have to face in the coming years, making them lethargic and irresponsible to their duties as a member of society and alluring them to a culture of individualism. And those spreading rumors and fake stories are directly and indirectly helping the anti-social and anti-national elements. This is also the result of Narcissism, because self praise makes a man completely selfish in all respects.
