Egoism and Self respect

There is a big and specific difference between Egoism and Self respect, but the line between both is very thin and almost invisible. Many times the person standing for his self respect is misunderstood of being egoist. Similarly, this also happens several times a man who in real sense is an egoist can be described as a man who believes in self respect. Egoism, to a large extant is very near to arrogance and sometimes the egoism is also results in violent actions of the person being under the influence of egoism. On the other hand a man who stands for self respect may be very humble and rational. Violence is not even near to him but he may opt for any way and mean to defend his self respect. An egoist does not hesitate to hurt the sentiments of others and he feels proud in insulting other people at any time or occasion. Self respect believers will never hurt the sentiments of others as they are aware of the pain and agony which a person has to face after his or her sentiments are hurt by others. Such people never insult others whatever the occasion or reason may be rather they believe in the principal of getting respect by giving respect to others. Those who are egoist will never care for the people of weaker and lower section of the society. They will never compromise with the situation and never come to the help of needy and poor people, despite being rich and affluent. Egoist people never adjust themselves with others even in emergency conditions and want to be different from others they are also class conscious and as such remain aloof from common man. A with self respect is altogether different from the egoist persons and he always prefers the company of others irrespective of class, caste and even religion. These are the major characteristic difference between the egoists and those who stand for self respect but despite this it is not easy to differentiate between egoist and self respect believers.
