Load Carriers and Traffic

The roads of Jammu city and outer are full of vehicles of different types including, scooters, bikes, cars, passenger buses, mini buses, trucks, heavy trucks, small load carriers, tractor-trolleys, horse-carts also, despite the fact Jammu is heading towards becoming a smart city. Among these entire vehicles one will find three and four wheeler small load carriers in good number moving on the roads of Jammu particularly in the interior parts of the city. These load carriers are used by the traders to carry their goods from stores to sale outlets and by the people to carry the purchased heavy goods from one place to their homes. No one has any objection over their business activities nor about the plying of these small two and three wheeler load carriers. But their driving style and arrogance of some of them is certainly objectionable to all citizens as it increases the risk of accidents on the already overloaded roads. But the more objectionable is the illegal modification in the structure of these small load carriers. All these load carriers have been designed as half bodies according to the automobile engineering specifications. These small load carriers when reached at the showroom are in half body, when these are sold to the customers the load carrier is half body, at the time of registration and obtaining the fitness certificate these carriers are half body. But as soon as the owners get the registration and fitness certificates from the concerned regional transport offices and get their carriers insured the first job done by the owners of the load carriers is to convert the small load carrier into full body. A separate structure is added to the structure of the carrier by welding process and the vehicles which have been passed and allowed to move on the roads as half body is converted into full body by violating the traffic laws. This is not done at any underground garage or workshop but on the road and in broad daylight. Moreover these half body carriers illegally converted full body carriers move on the roads, carrying loads even more and above the full body without any check. These load carriers are also one of the major reasons for the traffic jams and blocks. As most of these load or unload goods from the shops located in the congested roads of the city the roads are blocked by their wrong parking even sometimes they park their carrier in the middle of the road. Secondly they hardly care or listen to the people who have to face several problems because of them, particularly office going people. Why they are not booked for their daylight violation is a question which must be answered.
